WHAT WE DO
Each client has a unique set of goals and needs. Our approach to portfolio management starts with the creation of an investment policy statement. Using that as a guidepost, we structure the right asset allocation for each of our clients’ investment entities. We then select the best in-class investment managers and monitor their performance.
Investment Policy Statement
Wealthy families have complex needs that change over time and differ between family members. By creating an investment policy statement for each entity, we crystallize the needs, goals and objectives for each investment entity. The IPS includes, among other things, risk parameters, primary goals, investment time horizon, cash flow needs and tax status.
Strategic Asset Allocation
At Constellation, we undertake a multi-stage process to determine the proper asset allocation of our clients’ portfolios. Using the investment policy statement as a guidepost, we create a strategic asset allocation plan for our clients. Factors which help determine our clients’ asset allocation include our clients’ individual motivations and circumstances, retirement objectives and estate plan, the outlook for the markets, preexisting concentrated equity positions, non-listed assets and our clients’ philanthropic goals.
Manager Selection
Constellation’s advantage in choosing the right managers for our clients comes not only from our due diligence process, but also from the simple fact that we are experienced money managers ourselves. Our principals have more than 100 years of combined experience managing money and are students of the global markets.
Trust Strategies
Two large forces, death and taxes, can greatly impact portfolio returns. As a result, we work to educate our clients and their families on various investment vehicles which can help in our clients’ long range planning. Using our extensive network of legal and accounting professionals, as well as the experience of our own clients, we can help our clients’ team of legal and accounting advisors craft the right investment vehicles for our clients.
Family Office Services
While the core of our business is advising our clients on managing their wealth, we have built an extensive network of outside service providers who we make available to our client families as needed. These resources can include family governance, philanthropy and foundation planning, coordination of outside service professionals, tax records preparation, family entity accounting, key documentation storage, bill payment management, philanthropic strategies and implementation, debt financings and personal employee screening and placement.
